Storskogen eyes international expansion

Storskogen has grown into an established industrial compounder in Sweden with an aggregate turnover of about EUR 1 billion. In June the company made its first acquisition outside of Sweden – and is now looking towards further international expansion.

Storskogen has experienced exceptional growth since its inception in 2012 and today the company comprises of 55 business units that are dived into three business areas; Industry, Trade and Services. The combined turnover of the group is SEK 10 billion (pro forma rolling 12 months), about EUR 1 billion.

Last year was Storskogens most acquisition intensive year so far, adding an annual turnover of SEK 2.8 billion, about EUR 280 million, through the acquisitions of 27 companies. Out of these purchases, 11 were add-on acquisitions, whereby the acquired companies were added to existing business units in the group. The remaining 16 companies are regarded as platform-acquisitions and have formed new business units.

Further expansion, 2020 and beyond
Despite the challenges due to covid-19 Storskogen has maintained a fairly high level of acquisitions. At the end of September 2020, another 17 companies had been acquired to the group, adding an annual turnover of about SEK 2.6 billion, or about EUR 260 million.

In June of 2020 Storskogen took its first international step with the acquisition of Frends AS, a wholesaler of hair care products in Norway. Alexander Bjärgård, head of mergers and acquisitions at Storskogen is confident that this was the start of further international activity.

– We are well-capitalized to pursue our acquisition agenda and are open to look at companies in new industries and sectors internationally, mainly in the Nordics as well as in the DACH-countries. Also, we are eager to pursue add-on acquisitions to our existing companies that can complement their geographic markets and broaden their offerings, says Alexander Bjärgård.
