BUSINESS INSIGHT

For more than 50 years, Tornado Wire has manufactured fencing products for agriculture and other demanding environments. Today, the UK-based company serves customers across the UK, Europe and North America. With decades of experience from the field, Tornado Wire has continued to develop its offering, most recently with a new steel fencing post incorporating recycled agricultural plastic.

Tornado Wire, part of Storskogen’s Industry business area, has its roots in agriculture. From its manufacturing facility in Millom in northern England, the company produces fencing solutions for customers within agriculture, equestrian, forestry, infrastructure and conservation.

Over the years, the business has expanded both its geographical reach and its product offering. In addition to wire fencing, Tornado Wire has developed a complete metal fencing solution through the addition of its Pro-Strain® fence post system. The system provides an alternative to traditional wooden fence posts, which can have a relatively short lifespan or require chemical treatment.

In 2025, the company expanded the range with the launch of the Pro-Strain i-Post®, an intermediate steel post designed to complement the existing end posts. The product combines structural steel with an insert made from recycled agricultural plastic and is designed to offer greater flexibility in installation.

From field to factory and back again
The recycled plastic component is part of what Tornado Wire calls its “Field to Factory to Field” approach. Agricultural packaging is recycled into a component used in the intermediate post, bringing material from farms into the manufacturing process before returning it to an agricultural setting as part of a new fencing system. At the end of its useful life, the product can be recycled again.

The Pro-Strain i-Post® is one example of how Tornado Wire continues to build on its long experience in fencing through product development and new approaches to manufacturing.

This focus on innovation has also received industry recognition. The Pro-Strain® system received a Silver Award at LAMMA 2025 and a Commendation Award at the RHASS Innovation Awards 2025. Tornado Wire was recently also named a finalist in six categories at The Manufacturer MX Awards, the most prestigious awards programme for UK manufacturers. The award ceremony will take place on 11 November in Liverpool.
